2005 Maritime Estate Chardonnay

Maritime Estate situated in the Red Hill sub-region of Victoria's Mornington Peninsula is a family owned vineyard established by brothers John & Kevin Ruljancich in 1993. The 12 acre vineyard was planted in 1988, with a focus to producing high quality, premium Pinot Noir (45%), Chardonnay (35%) & Pinot Gris (20%).

The estate produces an average yield of 1.5 - 2 tonnes per acre, allowing winemaker Sandro Mosele to make wines that are reflective of the vineyard & its particular nuances. The philosophy is to keep yields low and quality assertive, which is the direct result of meticulous vineyard control & management, with natural winemaking methodology. Maritime Estate aims to produce 1000 - 1200 cases annually across the three varieties.

Tasting Notes:

The Mornington Peninsula has continually produced Chardonnay wines of amazingly high standards. The Maritime Estate Chardonnay has a rich history of winning show class medals throughout Australia. Maritime Estate is planted to the 'Bernard' (Cote-d'Or) Chardonnay clones, which produce the most consistent fruit, with impeccably high qualities.

The 2005 Maritime Estate Chardonnay is a wine that displays classic Chardonnay flavours, with the unique feature of bottle age complexities. In the glass, the colour is a bright pale golden appearance. The nose is inviting with a highly complex aromatic spectrum, depicting a combination of fresh bread/toast, hints of brioche, honey & nougat. The palate is brilliantly complex. Instantly, you should be struck by the honeydew/stonefruit flavours. This is followed by the honey & toast characters that give the wine length & balance. Enjoy with a classic home cooked roast chicken with hearty root vegetables.

The initial 'J.R' featured on the 2005 Chardonnay is in memory of John Ruljancich (founder) who sadly passed away in 2007.

2006 Royal Melbourne Wine Show GOLD MEDAL Class 28
