A.Rodda Beechworth Chardonnay 2010
The 2010 Beechworth A. Rodda Chardonnay is a single vineyard wine sourced from the oldest vineyard in Beechworth; the Smiths Vineyard, (a wine which we used to stock). Winemaker Adrian Rodda's (ex Oakridge) intention was to make a Chardonnay that is minerally and elegant yet still expressive of the site. Timing of harvest played an important part in this quest to achieve the desired flavour profile and a balance of natural acidity. Fruit was pressed to oak without racking or clarification for natural fermentation. Upon completion of fermentation, the wine was immediately sulphured to preserve freshness and acidity and rested on its lees for ten months. The wine was finished to bottle with minimal fining.
Wine journalist Jane Faulkner describes the wine as such; "Adrian's new
wine is finely balanced, with terrific line and length, made with minimal
oak handling".
