Giaconda McClay Road Wines - While Stocks Last!
The McClay Road label was first used in 2003 when Giaconda Shiraz and Pinot
were declassified that vintage due to extreme weather conditions. From 2005,
Rick has released a McClay Road Shiraz, the fruit for this wine coming from one
small Warner Vineyard block (which doesn't make it into Giaconda Shiraz) and
the Chardonnay, which is new, comes from younger vines on the Estate Vineyard.
Both these wines are from a terrific vintage and reflect Rick Kinzbrunner's affinity with these varieties and represent outstanding value!
McClay Rd Chardonnay 2008
Displays nuances of gunflint, malt and nougat on the nose, while its powerful long palate delivers almond meal & buttered corn with some oak showing on the finish. This is very much in the Giaconda style without the extended barrel ageing. Good drinking now with the potential to improve over the coming years. Limited Stock.
Food Match: Fish and Chips, Roast Chicken or a linguine with lemon zest, chili and olive oil
McClay Rd Shiraz 2008
Distinctive Shiraz nose, with hints of clove and nutmeg, fresh mulberries and a touch of cocoa. The aroma delivers to the palate sweet red berry fruit. Rick makes this wine in the style of a northern Rhone Crozes Hermitage. This wine will drink through into the next 5 - 7 years with ease. Limited Stock.
Food Match: Split pea and ham hock soup, Antipasto, Spaghetti and meatballs even a nice barbecued lamb backstrap with olive tapenade.
