China 'The Next Wine Super Market'
Wine Export Approval Report November 2008
In the year ended November 2008, the moving annual total (MAT) volume of Australian wine exported was 695 million litres, up 2 million litres on the October, signalling that the volume of Australian wine exports may have turned upwards. Total value of exports during this November period was A$2.49 billion.
During the reported period, both China (up A$18 million to A$70 million) and Denmark (up A$10 million to A$58 million) continued as bright prospects for Australian wine exports, China jumping three places to become Australia's fifth most valuable export market and Denmark also climbing up the ranks to number seven.
In addition there were positive price outcomes in shipments to China, New Zealand, France, Germany, Sweden, Hong Kong and Japan. An increase in the bottled share of shipments plus improved bottled and bulk prices were chiefly responsible for increases in the average price of shipments to China (up 83% to A$5.00 per litre), and New Zealand (up 32% to A$4.12 per litre).
An increase in bulk wine shipped to the UK and US has also been evident since August 2008.
