Drink Australia Policy, by Morrie Sinclaire
I think it is good to be patriotic. I'm not talking about wearing the flag as a cape, buying a ute, or singing Khe Sanh. I mean it is good to appreciate what Australia has to offer.
A few months ago Stephen Pannell, an acclaimed winemaker, began the web site www.allforonewine.com where he has asked us to pledge to exclusively drink wine made in Australia from the 1st to the 26th of January, and I think it is a dash-darn-good idea. Try new things, buy your family a job and all that.
However, as the commencement date of January 1st draws near the number of articles and amount of banter on the topic has - escalated with one negative tone towards the idea coming through. It seems that concern beyond fanciful xenophobic innuendo exists, and that question is whether Australian wine is in fact good enough to limit oneself to for nearly a month...
