Industry Position - Australian Wine
April 2007
The latest figures according to the Australian and New Zealand Wine Industry Directory show a net gain of 109 wine producers – an increase of 5.7 per cent from 2005. The number listed now stands at 2008, up from 1988 in 2005. Over the past ten years there has been an average net gain of about 107 wine producers per year.
The top 20 wine companies account for 85 per cent of total sales of branded wines, with the export market being dominated by six wine companies who contribute to 77 per cent of all export sales. In the domestic market, this leaves the remaining 1988 wine companies competing for 15 per cent of sales. The majority of the market – 69 per cent – competing for this 15 per cent are small producers crushing less than 100 tonnes.
The time has never been better for passionate retailers to stock the best wines at all price points without compromise. This is the aim of Armadale Cellars and is the basis for our current range. We would like you to take advantage of that, as "Life is too short to drink bad wine".
