1) All of our courses and events are to subject to our "1 week blackout rule". Participants can change the date of their course up to 1 calendar week before the commencement of the course.

2) We request that you park on High Street (as there are no parking restrictions after 6:30pm on High Street) when attending wine courses as the carpark is for short-term customer parking only.

One-Night Palate Trainer

Palate Trainer

Our one-night Palate Trainer is an intimate class conducted by Phil Hude designed for both the novice and connoiseur.
This 2-hour class will help you gain a better understanding of your own palate and teach you how to pick out specific wine faults which occur in 1 out of 12 bottles.
Learn what TCA (cork taint) smells like, fully understand the differences between bitterness, acidity, tannin, etc. A fantastic class for those just getting started, but also a great refresher for those who've been tasting for years.
A popular course for business groups.

This course is a must for novice and expert alike to keep your palate in tune.

5-Week Basic Wine Training Course

Intro to Wine Course

Our 5 week Intro to Wine Course has been rated Melbourne's Best*.
Join us as we learn and taste across all facets of wine appreciation including a week each on Champagne, White, Red, Fortified and Ageing.

This interactive wine course covers a broad range of wine topics directly related to the process of winemaking from vine to bottle. Learn the subtleties and nuances of the different styles. Each week includes a a varied selection of interesting wines to complement the seminar, with a view to giving each participant a clear understanding of the concepts of flavour and the ability to discern the characters which constitute complexity and style.

Course Outline

Week 1:
Sensory Evaluation, Palate Construction and Sparkling Wines and Champagne

Week 2:
Vineyard to Winery / White Wines

Week 3:
Winemaking Processes & External Winemaking Practices / Red Wines

Week 4:
Desert Style /Fortified Wines / Regions & Varieties

Week 5:
Aged Wines / The Synergy of Wine and Food / The Art of Wine Purchasing and Cellaring

On week 5, the group visits a local restaurant where a wide range of styles are looked at with food.

NEW! 4-Week Intermediate Course

Intermediate Class

Understand the basics but want to get more into the details?
2008 brings 2 new intermediate courses, a 4 week red wine course and a 4 week white wine course.

Join us we venture past the basics!

Intermediate Red Wine Course:

Over the four weeks we will -
  • Review and assess each of the dominant (new world) red varietals:  Pinot, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz.

  • Discern between the regions these wines hail from: understand first hand why a Shiraz from the Barossa Valley tastes different from a Shiraz from the Hunter Valley, or a Syrah from the Rhone

  • Discern specific varietal traits using the latest olfactory kits
    • Including an assessment of the nuances in aroma and oak treatment

  • The course will assess both Old and New World wines; however the focus will be on Australian wines. Each night will include as assessment of six to ten premium wines.
An intermediate level of learning* is required to attend Armadale Cellar's "Intermediate Red Wine Course".  The course is limited in numbers.  To learn more or book into this exciting new course email us or ring us at 9509-3055. * Customers who have completed the Intro to Wine Course will have an appropriate understanding of wine to attend our intermediate level courses.


Intermediate White Wine Course:

Over the four weeks we will -

  • Discern between the regions these wines hail from:  understand first hand how varied Chardonnay can taste, dependent on the oak / stainless steel treatment and climate; or why and how a Sauvignon Blanc from the Margaret River tastes differnent than from Marlborough New Zealand.

  • Discern specific varietal traits using the latest olfactory kits
    • Including an assessment of the nuances in aroma and oak treatment

  • The course will assess both Old and New World wines; however the focus will be on Australian wines. Each night will include as assessment of six to ten premium wines.

This course is designed for anyone with a keen interest in wine. A star-studded line-up of wines will ensure that you will gain an unmatched experience from completing the course.

The course covers a week on the regions of France, Italy, Germany and Spain, providing invaluable insight into the regions and varieties of the Old World!

4-Session Basic Traveller’s French

Join us for an introduction/refresher into traveller's French for those of you lucky enough to be going to France (or who dream of going)

Yveline has years of experience in teaching and working as an interpreter of the French language around the world. She has been employed as an Interpreter for the French Embassy and several Corporations in Australia. She is also employed as a private tutor and thoroughly enjoys teaching her native tongue.
