"Domaine de l'Enchantoir's 2019 Saumur Puy Notre Dame is crafted from vines in excess of forty years of age, with the fermentation and elevage taking place in cement vats. The wine is nicely ripe in the style of the vintage, tipping the scales at fourteen percent and offering up scents of red and black cherries, tobacco leaf, a beautiful base of chalky soil tones, menthol and a touch of balsam bough in the upper register. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, focused and complex, with a superb core of fruit, ripe tannins, fine balance and grip and a long, classy and very promising finish. This needs some bottle age to blossom from behind its well-integrated tannins, but it is going to be an excellent wine once it is ready to drink!"

"The 2019 Le Pied à l'Étrier remains a young wine, even four years after the grapes were picked. Smooth and elegant, it is filled with fresh blueberries and blackcurrants, as well as an element of reduction that slightly detracts from the aromatic appeal. Get past that, and it's a well-judged, fruity yet savory style, concluding with tension and line that can only be chalk-soil-derived. It's one of those wines that grows on you-in a good way! "
