Like Penfolds Bin 389 - only better - and half the
From a Penfolds Grange-supplying vineyard
Made by a former Penfolds winemaker
You mightn't heard of the Gruetzner vineyard or Tom Riley, the man that
made it, but it's time you got acquainted. Located in Apsley in
far-western Victoria, the Gruetzner vineyard produces dry-grown Shiraz
and Cabernet Sauvignon fruit of exceptional quality. Very few sites can
lay claim to making the cut for Penfolds Grange, but the Gruetzner
While working with Penfolds as a member of the Grange winemaking team,
Tom Riley kept a watching eye on the fruit coming in from the
Gruetzner vineyard. Upon leaving Penfolds, he set about creating his
interpretation of the classic Australian Cabernet Shiraz blend, sourcing
fruit exclusively from the Gruetzner vineyard.
In many respects, Gruetzner Vineyard Cabernet Shiraz is like Penfolds Bin
389, but with the added distinction of being a single vineyard wine. It
is matured exclusively in used oak barrels, the fruit very much taking
centre stage. With its natural fruit tannin and balanced acidity, this
wine has the necessary building blocks for a bright cellaring future.
When purchased in units of six bottles as part of this offer, you can buy
the Gruetzner Vineyard Cabernet Shiraz 2013 for just $33 per bottle.
That's roughly half the price of the current release of Penfolds Bin 389!
For those out there who bought the 2012 vintage release of Gruetzner
Vineyard, the 2013 is just as good, with the blend favouring
Cabernet Sauvignon rather than Shiraz.
For those interested in securing a bottle or two of Penfolds Grange as a
gift, to maintain a vertical or just to enjoy sometime down the track, we
are offering the 2011 vintage, released a few weeks ago.
With the festive party season upon us, do not miss the opportunity
to load up with a six-pack or two of the exceptional Franck Bonville
Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru NV. At just $50 per bottle by the
six-pack, it has to be the best Champagne deal going around!
(Offer price - $35 per bottle $210 per six-pack)
"Tom Riley has left the corporate winemaking life at Penfolds and set
up his own label, sourcing fruit from top vineyards. This
full-bodied, dark-fruited firm and cellar-worthy cabernet shiraz comes
from a remote site in Victoria's Wimmera."
