Rill House My Deer Bride Chardonnay 2021
From 650m elevation vineyard originally planted in 1986. 100%
barrel fermented and matured in a combination of new and used barrels for
12 months. 12.6% ABV.
The 2021 vintage spent a year in new and old French oak barrels. The
fruit was whole bunch pressed and went through natural barrel
fermentation with minimal intervention. The chardonnay displays aromas of
grapefruit, cumquat and roasted almonds. A distinctive concentration and
generosity, with notes of citrus and nougat. The altitude-driven natural
acidity results in a wine to be enjoyed over many years of careful
cellaring.

Bright lemon yellow in appearance. Immensely appealing nose of
toasted almond meal, brioche, baked apple, beurre bosc pear, white
nectarine and a hint of grapefruit. Medium bodied, soft and
round in texture with good underlying acidity lending balance and
freshness. Myriad of orchard fruits interwoven with sophisticated
nutty/spice barrel-derived characters. Long and very
fine. This is top notch Chardonnay by any
measure. Delivers a lot of pleasure now but has the depth and
structure to reward ageing for several years.
