Wild Duck Creek Fortified Duck 2021
Very dark red. This wine is a combination of Shiraz (50%) and Tempranillo
(50%) grown at our cooler southern Mia Mia vineyard. These two varieties
are destemmed, then co-fermented to interweave aromas and flavours, then
fortified using 24yo brandy. It is then left on skins for 5 days to
intensify textures. We were so excited when pressing this wine, as the
smell of blueberry ice cream leapt from the glass. It was then matured in
old oak barriques for 12 months. The nose is intense. Filled with
blueberries, spice, anise and violets. It's has an old-world charm about
it. The palate is rich and silky. Layers of blue and red fruits, dark
chocolate and liquorice coat your palate. The sweetness wraps you up in a
warm blanket, and the soft yet abundant tannins leave your mouth watering
and begging for more. Drink now or cellar for decades!
