Wild Duck Creek Shoveler Grenache Blanc 2023
Winemaking
The 'Shoveller' is a brand new wine for us here at Wild Duck Creek Estate.
We have two vineyards planted to Grenache Blanc that use in the final
blend. Those vineyards are Rathjen Vineyard in the north of the region, and
our Mayes Block in the south. Rathjen Vineyard grows in red Cambrian period
soils, whilst the Mayes Block is growing in sandy loam over clays, mudstone
and sandstone. The grapes are harvested, destemmed and soaked on skins for
up to 24 hours prior to being pressed. The wine is then barrel fermented in
French oak with up to 50% new oak being used. Maturation is for 6 to 9
months depending on the vintage prior to bottling.
Nose:
A very sophisticated aroma profile. Highly aromatic. Honeysuckle, lemon
curd, baked apple and a hint of sea spray.
Palate:
Flavours of baked honey and apple, with a little dried herb to finish.
Generously flavoured and refreshing.
Cellaring:
Drink now to 2035
Pairing suggestion:
Roast chicken, scallops in butter sauce, cheddar cheese.
