I fell in love with Carmenere when working in Chile. The flavour and
depth of the variety are phenomenal. When picked early you get a
freshness and savoury note of capsicum. When picked ripe Carmenere can be
more powerful than Cabernet Sauvignon. This vintage I got it right, the
grapes were ripe without losing their savoury note. A wine full of
blackberries and elderberries also a hint of green peppercorn.
Winery tasting note
Deep crimson in appearance. Highly attractive nose of
blackcurrant/blackberry, touch of graphite, a herbal note (dry rosemary,
thyme and bay) lends complexity. Dry, medium bodied, lovely core of
ripe dark berry fruit, notes of green capsicum and a lovely herbal
edge. Super smooth, with very fine tannins. Drinking superbly
now. Bravo Jean-Paul!
