SC Pannell Oliver Road Aglianico 2018 is proof positive that Pannell
hasn't lost his midas touch. The debut release of this wine is very
special. In a star studded career highlighted by multiple Jimmy
Watson Trophy wins, it may well prove to be Pannell's masterstroke.
Wine writer and judge Jane Faulkner heralded it as "one of the most
important wines to come out of Australia for some time."
If that doesn't make you sit up and take notice, nothing will!
In case you're not familiar with Aglianico, it is one of Italy's great
grape varieties, grown in the south (primarily Campania and
Basilicata). It is sometimes referred to as the 'Barolo of
the south' thanks to its Nebbiolo-like tannin and acid structure and
complex aromatics. Certainly, if you like Nebbiolo, (or Sangiovese
for that matter), you will most definitely like Aglianico.
The 2018 vintage of SC Pannell Oliver Road Aglianico is the debut vintage
for this wine - what a debut! This wine is a glimpse of the
potential of Aglianico in McLaren Vale's warm Mediterranean climate.
Bravo Steve Pannell - you've done it again!
